YAML to JSON Converter
Convert YAML and YML configuration files to validated JSON objects. Features multi-document stream support (---), indentation controls, and instant copy/export.

How to Use the YAML to JSON Converter
- Paste Your YAML Content: Paste your
.yamlor.ymldocument into the input field, or click Upload File to select a local configuration. - Multi-Document Stream Handling: If your YAML file contains multiple resources separated by
---(such as multiple Kubernetes manifests), the tool automatically converts them into a consolidated array of JSON objects. - Select Indentation or Minify: Choose between 2 spaces, 4 spaces, or Minified for immediate production payload compression.
- Convert with One Click: Click Convert to JSON to validate the YAML grammar and generate compliant JSON output.
- Export Config: Click Copy to copy the JSON to your clipboard, or Download to save it as
output.json.
Why Convert YAML Configurations into JSON?
YAML is designed for human authoring, but machines, web runtimes, and APIs operate on JSON. Common scenarios where converting YAML to JSON is required:
- Command-Line Inspection with jq: The command-line tool
jqis the standard for querying nested data, but it only accepts JSON. Converting YAML configs to JSON lets you run powerful filters and transformations. - REST and GraphQL API Ingestion: Backend endpoints reject raw YAML. Converting infrastructure manifests into JSON allows them to be posted to cloud management APIs (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Schema Validation: Modern automated testing frameworks use JSON Schema (Draft 7 / 2020-12) to validate configurations before deployment.
- Client-Side Security: Parsing YAML locally protects confidential API keys, database credentials, and cluster tokens from third-party server logging.
Key Conversion Rules to Keep in Mind
- Comments Are Automatically Removed: JSON does not support comments. Any inline descriptions (
# notes) in the source YAML are dropped during conversion. - Strict Type Inferences: Booleans (
true/false) and numbers are accurately preserved without turning into string literals. - Multi-Document Payloads: Files with triple hyphens (
---) output an array containing each document in order, ensuring no definitions are lost.
